WHY WE’RE DIFFERENT
The Samburu Project’s is not just focused on clean water; we are focused on people and communities in Samburu, Kenya. The first step to changing lives in this beautiful, arid, drought-stricken corner of the world is by accessing clean water. But it is our relationship with the communities of Samburu that allows our first wells to still deliver water over 10 years later.
Of the 100 wells we’ve drilled in the area, more than 90% continue to serve their communities today.
KEYS TO SUCCESS
WeLL MAINTENANCE COMMITTEES:
We help each community identify 4 members to serve on a well maintenance committee. The committee is then taught how to properly maintain the well. The wells belong to the communities they serve and we want to make sure we acknowledge that. We encourage each community to establish a well maintenance savings account for the inevitable repair and TSP also saves $1,000 from each well for emergency repairs.
Boots on the ground:
Our success is do in large part to our amazing team in Samburu. We construct wells that are easily maintained but, just to be sure everything is in working order, our team monitors each well at least twice a year. When the committee needs help, we’re there to jump in. The TSP team is part of the community and oversees the entire process from application, to the first pump, to future programming!
Every well community attends a mandatory hygiene & sanitation workshop to ensure that well stays clean. They are taught not to let animals defecate near the wells, why it is important to wash your hands, and more! LEARN MORE→
