A WORLD WATER CRISIS

Every day, a quarter of people around the world wake up to a stark reality: drink dirty water or go thirsty. This impossible decision leads to an increase in disease transmission, restricts educational opportunity, reduces gender equality, prevents economic growth, and traps entire communities in a cycle of poverty. But, with access to clean water, over 2 billion people around the world would wake up to a new reality. Access to clean water improves health, expands education, empowers women and girls, and increases economic growth. It is a small drop in the bucket of development, but that drop creates ripples of change that expand to impact communities for generations to come.

THE IMPACT OF CLEAN WATER

Since 2006, The Samburu Project has drilled 155 wells, providing clean water to hundreds of thousands of people in central Kenya previously suffering from the impacts of climate change and poor infrastructure. Each drop was made possible by you, our amazing global community. On March 22nd, join us in celebrating the ripples of impact these water projects have had over the last year, and as we take strides towards furthering our work in Samburu.

WORKING WITH THE UN

First started in 1993, World Water Day is an annual United Nations Observance held in March 22 that focuses on the importance of freshwater. This year’s theme is Water for Peace and highlights how tensions can rise between communities and countries when water is scarce or polluted.
